There’s the “obsession”/starring at a girl, high school, he’s “charming”, his hair looks a bit similar to edward’s , everyone looks at them funny, another vampire is attacking people in the WOODS , bla bla bla… it’s the same
actually, it was written before twilight so it cant actually be a copy.
Arn’t they all based on Anne Rice “the vampire chronicles” interview with a vampire! Which was written in the 70’s
IT WAS WRITTEN IN 1996 for gods sake!!! so there is noooo way you can call it a copy. You should actually call twilight a copy. not the other way around. And read the books. theres a HUGE differene.
ACTUALLY the firts trilogy was written in 1991… There are several books and some of them are due to come out in 2010 and 2011… All sequels…
Twilight on the other hand was written in 2006… 15 years after!!!
does it matter that they have a similar story line and the characters look the same. all vampire stories have a similar story line, it is what makes them good!
the twilight novels are great and so are the vampire diaries!

I think people should REALLY read the books before they watch it, or at least give it a chance. It’s darker than Twilight (bar the pelvis snapping in Breaking Dawn
), in later books the kitsunes are definitely NOT Twi universe like.
The way it’s shot and the sudden interest in vampy-stuff is BOUND to cause comparissons – but I’m not complaining, I’m THRILLED these books will potentially become a fully fledged series.

as i read from wikipedia, it seems like this series was published first, before twilight. the vampire diaries, the awakening :: 1991, when the first twilight saga :: 2005. so i dont think its copy twilight. no offense though just an f.y.i
for all u ppeople who say this is a copy of twilight the books, this was written before twilight
hope they did as good a job as they did with true blood
and if u liked twilight go to you local library and look for the vampire diaries by lj smith she is a great writer her books are better than twilight (though twilight was an enjoyable read)
cant wait to see how they developed her books into a show
so glad you recommended this series going to need something to watch before true blood comes back next summer.
If the books are so much better i’m torn whether or not I should read those or just enjoy the show….hmmm

i read these books as soon as i heard it was gonna be a show and i loved them, i’m kinda dissapointed that the cw made such big changes from what it was in the books but… wat can u do?, when people say its a copy of twilight they mean that the vampire diaries became like a big movie/show scheme after twilight so that must mean they copied twilight.
the vampire diaries were written before twilight, if you look at the manuscrits that is. technaly twilight is a rip off of this. but most vamp books are the same these a=days its because 13 and 14 year old girls go all gushy when they hear “forbiddin romance” or “mysery man” and get into it then when they get older it sticks with them. im not saying its a bad thin, god no, im one of those gushy girls, im just telling it like it is.
these books may not be ripped off from twilight, but the fact that the networks picked it up now and not 10 years ago is testament to twilight’s popularity

Well, it looks pretty corny and it does seem like the same format as Dawson’s Creek (which I hated), but I’ll still watch it. It’s entertaining. I’ll laugh at some parts… but I’ll be a regular viewer.
i read the series and found them really interesting!! it may look like it is alot like twilight but i personally think its nothing like it!! it may look like it on the video… but hey … there are similar things ….just i think this is better!! its going to make a great tv show!! its defo gonna keep everyone on their toes!!…garenteed!!!
OMG!!!! That looks so good not the same story line as true blood or twilight, making it amazing and new. And that girl who plays elana also played mia on Degrassi on the n . It is amazing. I cant wait to watch it.

Not dissing the books because well, i haven’t read them but the writer of dawsons creek…nuff said.
The girl is really pretty but she isn’t anywhere as interesting as Sookie. Pure cheese is my first impression but I’m sure it will be very popular with the young teenage girls.
This looks like a pretty good show but nothing will EVER compare to Sookie Stackhouse and True Blood!
Just for the record, The Vampire Diaries is nothing like Twilight. Trust me, Twilight is good but sometimes that excessive romantic crap is sick. With TVD that never happens, at least not in the books. The show is gonna rock…
Oh and I totally agree with yechi13 but the original 3 books from TVD were written before Twilight. However, the return (new series of books continuing the original story) is to be publish.
I disagree with one thing. Until I actually see the show, I’ll think that making all those changes to the characters and the story was a bad thing. Even though Damon and Stefan stood exactly as I pictured them… Gosh… they just look so amazingly hot and cute… BOTH (but I prefer Damon -4ever-)!
And that black humor of Damon… “Wherever you go people die… – That’s given”… OMG
In the third book, Damon, Stefan and Elena find out that Katherine faiked her death. She keeps them as prisoners and starts punishing and torturing Stefan ’cause she says she’s mad at him… Then she offers Damon an escape and at first he smiles but then… then they start this little talking:
- Katherine…?
- Yes?
- Katherine…
- Yes, Damon?
- GO TO HELL!
I broke into laughs… It’s just amazing…
i was just wondering where the pilot is since it was aired in May…
It isn’t set to premier until Sept. 10th on the CW. Did they show the pilot on CTV in May?
Never mind. Just found out on Wiki that the pilot was ordered in May, but filming didn’t start until July 2009. The pilot will air on Sept 10th., and will probably be on this site to view later that evening.
hmmm this may be worth a watch… the L J Smith books were written far before twilight (I think they are better written, though twilight was good fun!). This series (TVD) was definitely not my favourite of hers though, in my opinion the best of LJ Smith’s is the dark visions trilogy, (think they are re-publishing it v soon, its an old one that went out of print.) If any of you guys want a good read I recommend that!!
Wat the hell is this?? First off…BAD ACTORS, second off..y the hell are the vampires out in broad daylight, goin 2 skool and shit?? Ill watch the first episode when it comes out but i dont think it will even compare to True Blood….waste of everyones time

ive read and own the books from when Vampire Diaries (VD) were first published. twilight has a gooshy high school love feel to it, its meant for a younger crowd. VD lacks the ability to get real close with any of the charters, and has a darker feel to it.
if you look back to the first romance vampire books everything is the same. vampire meets human, they fall in love, happy ending. so no one really ripped off anyone.
i will deff be watching the show!

and I liked Bill and Sookie in the first season but starting in the second I started wanting Sookie and Eric to get together, he is so sweet but he never shows it and he’s funny.
The books came out a long time before Twilight came out luvs. I read the Vampires Diaries when I was growing up. Personally I’m looking forward to seeing if the TV series is as good as the books were. Give it a chance, I think you’ll enjoy it a lot.

I personally love the Anita Blake Series by Laurel K Hamilton. I hope they make a show and a movie based on her books. Her books are more adult.
When it comes down to all this vampire romance. I wish for more of the rouge vampire, show their true nature you know. This whole lovey dovey stuff its getting kinda old, no real impact. Its all seems like another Deja Vu.

so many people think the vampire diaries are a total copy of twilight, but actually its the other way around. if u check the publication date for the vampire diaries it came out in 1991 whereas twilight only came out in 2005 so those of you out there who think lj smith ripped off of twilight, SHE DIDNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (if you ask me, the vampire diaries are much better than twilight)

I remember reading them In the late 90’s when I was like 13 and the books were out of print then… L.J. Smith has better series too! I loved the one with the coven of witches, and the one with the physic kids, and who could forget the the forbiden Game trilogy… I suggest everyone read those books! they are way better than vamp diaries or twilight!

it’s great how people compare the storyline to Twilight…it may seem similar but that’s cause Stephanie Meyer bites the ideas of other writers. L.J. Smith’s series’ is much more entertaining and well written…and so far there are only vague similarities between the show and book, mainly character names and a broad version of the story. hopefully it wont disappoint.

Lets just say for the record that the books Vampire Diaries came out way before Twilight was even thought of. I’ve seen the Twilight movie and read the book and all the story lines are smiliar. People should just give Vampire Diaries a break it will set itself different from the rest soon enough. If not so what i’ll still like it.

Enjoyed the episode. It has changed a lot from the books, but I suppose it’s like Charlaine Harris said about the writers of the True Blood series. She doesn’t tell them how to produce TB, and they don’t tell her how to write the books. Looks like that’s true with L J Smith and the writer’s of the tv Vampire Diaries.
It’s nice though, because I won’t always know exactly what’s going to happen. Like Stephan being Zach’s uncle, and Vickie knowing that a Vampire attacked her; those were nice surprises. I guess Mystic Falls has a nicer ring than Fells Church. Anyway I am looking forward to next weeks episode.
Really enjoyed the first episode of The Vampire Diaries. Looks like it will be a really good show, can’t wait until Elena and Damon become a couple.

SOOOOOO much better then the book!!!! SOOOOO much better!!!! Elena isnt such a bitch, i like the name mystic falls better then falls church, Elana has a brother not a little sister who she looks after and it just adds to the character. you get such a better feel for the characters in the show. you get a nice little twist and nothing is predictable i love it! im excited for this season!
p.s. twilight is wayyyy to cheesy love story compared to this.

I like it so far,, its not the best serie ive seen because True Blood in my opinion is far better. i just felt it was a little too rushed and i didnt like that. Ill still keep watching<3

well excuse me, Emma, but it is not a twilight copy since the vampire diaries book was released in 1991, about 15 years BEFORE twilight was even though about. You should say twilight is a copy, since it copied the vampire diaries, true blood and many more vampire books. Stephanie Meyer is definitely not an original writer from my point of view
TVD IS THE BEST!!! but the books are wayyyyy better
they changed a lot of the stuff, like elene is supposed to have blond hair, stefan is supposed to be hot, meredith is not in it in the series, at the begining elena is WALKING to school and sees the huge raven, bonnie reads her palm at school (bonnnie is white with red curly hair, irish!), elena has a sister callled MARGARET in the books, not a brother and her aunts name is JUDITH! (if i recall) its way diff then the book, i like the books much better. there are 4 books, i read all of them in about 2 weeks because they were SOO good!! I LOVE STEFAN!!! and the ring is supposed to be WAY smaller and discrete! not huuuugee! jeez! anyway, its good though, enouf excitement! TVD ROCKS!!!

ok i read the book before watching the series and its very good i liked it a lot the only thing similar to twilight is that theyre both about vampires, thats it. I have to say that the tv show does look like twilight characters in looks.

I thought the same thing at first, i watched the 1st 2 episodes and I was like what is this!!! I didn’t like it, but i somehow started watching the rest, and now its like one of my favorite shows..i just had to give it a chance..you should do the same! the story is interesting and I really really like the show now!!!

This is not a copy it was writen before and btw eve though I love twilight this story is better than twilight I mean this is just the 1st episode and Elena & Stefan are already in love!!:D I LOVE THIS SERIES IT REALLY GOOD!!
