The season 2 premiere of The Vampire Diaries is almost here, and for a good look at what’s the come the CW has released the official synopsis for the first episode back, “The Return,” airing Thursday, September 9 at 8pm.

Here’s what the CW has to say about the episode:

“Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes is comforted by Matt, Bonnie and Damon while she waits to hear if Caroline will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood, arrives to console the family.”

She’s making out with Damon and Stefan, attacking Elena’s friends and causing some serious drama. And I have to admit that I think Nina Dobrev is a lot better as Katherine than Elena.

Joshua Jackson has revealed that he turned down the chance to guest star in The Vampire Diaries.

The Fringe star revealed that he is still close to the show’s executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, who also worked on Dawson’s Creek. He admitted that during a meeting at Comic Con the option of him appearing on the vampire drama was discussed.

“We actually talked about it while we were there,” Jackson told E! Online. “It turns out he’s not making a comedy with The Vampire Diaries and I think it would be more inside baseball comedy if I popped up.”

Jackson laughed that he wouldn’t be adverse to “a little light-hearted bloodsucking”, but added: “I don’t know. They’re all too handsome.”

Entertainment Weekly reports that Ford, who previously starred as Christine Hill in Dexter, will appear in the show as Vanessa.

The character is said to be a graduate student at Duke University who helps Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Alaric (Matthew Davis) look through some of Isobel’s research.

Speaking about the character last month, executive producer Kevin Williamson revealed that it has the potential to become a recurring role.

“She’s not without her own intrigue,” he said. “So it will be a nice little part for someone and it’s a storyline that hopefully could evolve into this massive storyline or we’ll just gut her like a fish! We don’t know yet.”

Katerina Grahm tweeted spoilers about Bonnie in season 2:

She tweeted, “Yep, it’s pretty insane. And I will say that Bonnie is really, really tough in the first episode back. She is not playing around. Bonnie will eff you up if you mess with her! She is also going to have to deal with Katherine, and that’s a whole new beast,literally.” She revealed that she won’t be helping Stefan and Damon anymore. When asked about that, she said, “Yea, she really means that. She’s not going to help them any more.”

Finally,she revealed that Bonnie is going to become even stronger. She stated, “Oh yea, she’s going to become even stronger,but it’s important she stay vulnerable too. You don’t want someone to raise hell with no motivation behind it. You can never forget the loss of a loved one and I don’t think she’ll ever get over losing her grams. That was her rock to this world. She wouldn’t do anything simply out of a hate for vampires. I don’t think she could ever justify that.”
